“The Junction” in West Seattle is a stretch famous for it’s shopping, dining and the grungy Easy Street Records. West Seattle is a great neighborhood but to be honest, it’s easy to get tired of going to the same restaurants and bars. I was randomly driving on California Ave and I noticed what appeared to be a new shop that had cute bright green tables, I had time off so I decided to drive by to see what it was and it turned out to be Fiddlehead.
Fiddlehead Fine Foods and Cafe is tucked away on SW Orgeon Street, there is a quaint sign, it’s not making a spectacle of itself.
Fiddlehead opened in March of this year and they have been featured in “Sunset” magazine. I felt so out of the loop not hearing about it before. The front counter was packed with all kinds of sweets and the menu board has their savory items.
I thought this was really cute.
I was told that their most popular breakfast items were the Pork Hash and the Cheesy Grits. Confession time: I don’t like poached eggs. It’s a consistency thing, it’s just too runny. I asked if I could get my eggs scrambled on the Pork Hash and I’m so happy they let me do it. Whew!
The Hash consisted of Ancho braised pork shoulder with crispy brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes and yellow potatoes topped with eggs. There was a surprise dollop of garlic yogurt that melted in the center which adds the perfect amount of creaminess to the dish. The portion was very generous, I had to take half of it home.
I couldn’t resist trying a locally made lollipop by This Charming Candy (http://thischarmingcandy.com). It was so much better than those A&W hard candies I grew up with.
This is the salted chocolate cookie I had since I’m all about the sweet and savory colliding. Perfectly crispy around the edges and soft in the middle.
I will be back for sure to try some of the lunch items, their Lemon Rosemary Chicken salad and the Biscuit BLT sound too good to pass up!

Julianne

Actress and Founder of Girls on Food: I was born and raised in the suburbs of Sacramento, California. I grew up a typical “McDonald’s kid”. I was very picky about what I ate and refused to try new foods. No fun, I know. My Mom started taking me on trips to Europe when I was a teenager and that’s when my palate for finer foods began to develop. Some of my most memorable favorite meals include Veal Bolognese in Rome, Gyros in Athens, Paella in Lisbon and Duck L’Orange in Paris. While this helped me grow out of a fast food phase, I still eat out quite a bit. I know I should be at home cooking, but I love dining out. I started working in restaurants in various front of the house positions at age 15. Since my start, I’ve worked in every casual restaurant setting you can think of: a teriyaki stand, brewery, sushi nightclub, trendy Mexican, family-style Italian, American diner, pizza parlor and even a BLT themed food truck. I can't help but notice that many of the LA food bloggers don't have any sort of background working in a restaurant. A lot of my perspective on food and dining out comes from my years of experience in the biz. Since starting this blog, I have shot appearances on a couple of cooking competition shows as a taster (including MasterChef Junior and another upcoming show). We have also started producing a Youtube Channel. IMDb page here: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2023647/ For this site I contribute content from all over Los Angeles (and the world) to showcase my favorite fine-dining spots, steakhouses, exclusive supper clubs, Hollywood nightlife and our very own #GOFx events, which I plan and coordinate.
