A few of us at GOF love The Walking Dead and are so excited to see the premiere of the spinoff Fear The Walking Dead this Sunday, August 23rd, 9/8c on AMC. The Walking Dead has become somewhat of an international phenomenon and has rightfully earned its place in the interesting history of cable TV as one of its most popular shows. But WD may have made us a little paranoid about a possible occurrence of zombie apocalypse. Some of us all ready planned out what the one food item we would keep on us is, cause you can never be too prepared, right?

Besides the obvious necessities required to survive the zombie apocalypse i.e. having watched and digested every scene of The Walking Dead, I would need a healthy snack that would motivate me to give the dead a run for their money. Surprisingly it’s not brainnnnzzzz in a bottle. My choice for making to the final scene in my very own zombie apocalypse story arc epic and inspiring would be Jif Peanut Butter.
I would raid the ransacked supermarket shelves for both the creamy and extra crunchy variety so I would never lag behind in highly anticipated zombie mob scene. Why Jif? Because choosy moms choose it and we all know how valuable, true, and lovingly scathing mom-pinions are.
FYI, my friends turned into zombies last year at a pub crawl so not to brag….but I do have some experience in these matters. Zombies can make friends too!

When all hell breaks loose there are a few emergency survival foods that you should always have in your emergency kit. Don’t have an emergency kit? What??? Get it this week it could save your life. I get comfort on knowing that I am a little bit prepared (just to set the record clear I am not a prepper).
Although I am a food forager my top one item would be –remember I’m thinking end of the world/zombie apocalypse – the 2400 Calories ERbar. The ERbar is an MRE emergency ration food –if you can call it that- it will keep you alive. But since it is a bit boring and you can’t do anything fun with it but just eat it and survive, I’ll share my top two item: Dried Beans. Not only do I love beans -black, kidney, garbanzo, pinto and lima- they are high in calories, contain a fair amount of protein and have several vitamins and minerals. Dried beans also have a long shelf life. They will stay good if you leave them in your car, cabin, office, etc. If that is not good enough for you, you can cook them in so many delicious ways and with only a small amount of beans you can feed a handful of people during a disaster. Who knew beans could be such a kind nutritious food?

I am going to preface this post by saying this first… In no way, would I ever expect to last more than a day during a Zombie Apocalypse. I can barely last 10 minutes in the DMV, let alone be left to defend my life in a zombie-infested world. Most people would probably bring some trail mix or beef jerky to give them energy and protein. They however, probably intend on stating alive, slaying those Zombie Walkers and will need the fuel to muscle up. I on the other hand, would bring Squeeze Cheez out of the can and make the most out of what I am dealt with.
Here are my reasons…
First off, it is processed so it has a very long shelf life. Next, it would turn anything into a delicious satisfying meal in my book, and lastly, let’s just say I did end up slaying a Zombie and had to use the arm for BBQ grub, it would most definitely make it edible. So my friends, there you have it. Squeeze Cheez would most definitely be my food of choice during a zombie apocalypse. It’s just so versatile!

Fingers crossed I have a guy like Daryl Dixon on my team, cause he’s always hunting fresh meat for his family. The one food item I would make sure I have with me would be William Sonoma Rosemary Garlic Rub. Rosemary and garlic are versatile flavors for any meat. I realize this would be a tough to keep up with, since I’d have to get Michonne to take me on runs to the mall, which is probably flooded with walkers. But the results would be so yummy! I imagine all the characters would get tired of eating squirrel, deer, pigeon, cat, dog, human (huh?) without any kind of seasoning. Plus, seasonings don’t have to be kept in the heavy tin, you can just pop them in a Ziplock bag and no extra weight is added to your backpack.
