Sammy Hagar and the team of
El Paseo know the way into a Girl on Food’s heart. Right when I stepped into their launch party for The Passage Bar, I was greeted with a glass of sparkling. How’d he know? 😉

It’s located in Mill Valley about ten minutes north of San Francisco. The bar is a collaboration between former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar and El Paseo, the restaurant right next door. The bar is a huge compliment to the stunning restaurant and is sure to be a social hotspot.
The place felt as if rustic meets low lit romantic, meets chic. A perfect combination for a cocktail after work. The stone entryway made me feel like I was walking right into Paris or London. The atmosphere was intoxicating, to say the least.
Between the restaurant and the newly opened bar is an outdoor patio and a second indoor area for chatting it up and enjoying delicious cocktails and appetizers is an outdoor patio and a second indoor area for chatting it up and enjoying delicious cocktails and appetizers.
There’s an impressive set of fine wines apparently some of which came from Sammy’s cellar. Can I admit my admiration for a great vintage? Opening the Passage Bar at this point in the game comes with a level of excitement due to a full liquor license, the opportunities are endless. And his impeccable team delivers a diverse selection of cocktails.
Of all the tastings, my favorite was the Santorita. The Chile salt on the rim was a perfect touch and the all the flavors combined to create a fresh and yet tart finish on the palate. I could have easily had more than one.
I didn’t get a chance to meet the Hall of Famer Sammy himself, but from what I’ve researched and can see, he knows what he is doing.
For my first time visiting this beautiful bar (it was packed by the way) and taking all the positive energy in, I can see myself visiting on the regular for the bar bites and epic cocktails, but also the fantastic customer service and ambiance. Best of luck Sammy!
